Criminal Law

When your future is on the line, let us protect you

If you have been charged with a federal or state crime, do not take your future for granted.  Defending yourself against a criminal charge is not just about trying to make sure you stay out of jail.  A conviction for a federal or state crime follows you around for years.  In this day of instant information on the internet, a future employer can make a judgment about you with the click of a mouse if your criminal record is not clean or sealed from public view.

Professional, aggressive criminal defense

At the federal and state criminal defense law office of Watson Graffeo P.C., we focus on defense strategies that dismiss or reduce the charges, and we work to seal your record from public view if the charges cannot be dismissed.  We understand that there is more than one side to any story.  At Watson Graffeo P.C., our Huntsville lawyers help clients who are accused of all types of state or federal crimes, from driving under the influence (DUI) to drug or narcotics offenses, to violent crimes.

Our federal and state criminal defense representation includes handling cases such as—

  • Burglary
  • White collar crime
  • DUI
  • Criminal appeals
  • Sex offenses
  • Embezzlement

Respected, relentless, resourceful

When you choose Watson Graffeo P.C., you can be confident that we carefully maneuver through the court system and work tirelessly to provide you with positive results.  Our experience means that we know every nuance of the court system.  Not only do we know the tendencies of prosecutors, judges, and juries, we also know about unique opportunities to protect your rights.

The foundation for any criminal case is preparation.  Regardless of whether the charge is capital murder or drug trafficking, aggravated robbery or theft, the criminal defense attorneys at Watson Graffeo P.C. prepare every case as if it were going to trial.  Prosecutors know this and respect the position of strength it affords our clients.  Armed with a fully prepared trial strategy, we often can negotiate plea agreements on our client's terms.  When negotiation is not fruitful, we do not hesitate to take the fight to the jury.

Noteworthy examples

  • Jake Watson served on the team of lawyers who represented Daniel Wade Moore, a man who served time on death row for a crime that he did not commit.  Mr. Moore was given a new trial because of prosecutorial misconduct and subsequently a Morgan County, Alabama jury acquitted him of capital murder in May 2009.
  • Jake Watson was also part of the legal team that represented Calvin Staten, coach of a girl's high school basketball team, accused of sexually assaulting four of his players.  The jury was unable to reach a verdict, causing the judge to declare a mistrial.  Mr. Staten later resolved the case by pleading to a misdemeanor charge of harassment and was sentenced to probation.

We cannot promise what the outcome of a case will be.  We do, however, promise to use our best professional skills to obtain the best result possible for our client.  We believe in the importance of our work and take pride in it.
